Underwater Photographer

The world below the surface of the water has so many beautiful and mystifying sights to capture. How many times have you seen something while diving so unusual or enticing and wished that you could have captured it through a photograph so you could share it with others?

The course is designed to range from the simple aspects of underwater photography to the very technical, all while being fun and for your enjoyment. The goal is to provide you with the ability to share your underwater experience through photography with others you know.

Why Underwater photographer?

The PADI Underwater Photographer Specialty course can help you learn how to take your first underwater photographs or fine tune your existing skills to produce photographs that will stun your friends.

Photography is not only a hobby but also an art and can be quite technical. Underwater photography creates an entirely new field of challenges for the photographer. Those range from the fact that water is an opaque medium, to how light diminishes with depth, the factors currents and surge create and not to mention, that your subject has no idea how to pose or stand still. Learning how to use your equipment properly will then enable you to show off your creativity and artistic ability.

What will I do?

You'll learn the basics of underwater photography such as composition, film type and camera handling, with special emphasis on practical techniques. You'll learn underwater photography dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problems. You'll also learn how to care for and maintain your camera equipment.

How long will it take?

1 knowledge review session, 1 pool session, 2 open water dives and 1 picture review session.

What do I need to start?

  • PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Minimum age: 10
