Wreck Diver Specialty

The lure of exploring sunken vessels, airplanes and automobiles is something most divers can't resist. Puget Sound and Canada offer a variety of wreck diving opportunities from airplanes to ship wrecks to intentionally sunk structures for artificial reefs. The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course introduces you to wreck diving and helps you develop the skills and knowledge necessary for safe and fun wreck diving. Information contained in your wreck diver program includes planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of wreck diving. You'll also learn the preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels, limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures. Course includes an optional pool session, two dives and picture review sessions and requires Adventure Diver certification and a minimum age of 15.

Wreck Diver

Under the waters of the Pacific Northwest lie a multitude of wrecks, both natural and artificial. There are simple easy dives on wrecks such as the dry dock at Edmonds. There are deeper, bigger, more exciting wrecks that are especially prepared for divers, such as the Mackenzie and the Cape Breton in Canada. There are the natural wrecks, some not much more than ballast piles and other remarkably intact such as the Diamond Knot in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A wreck diving specialty can prepare you for diving on, and even in, these wrecks and thereby add another dimension to your diving.

Why Become a Wreck Diver?

The lure of exploring sunken vessels, airplanes and automobiles is something most divers can't resist. The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course introduces you to wreck diving and helps you develop the skills and knowledge necessary for safe and fun wreck diving.

What will I do?

The PADI wreck diver class will teach you to dive safely in and around wrecks. However, wreck diving encompasses a wide range of activities, from the exterior survey of a relatively clean wreck in shallow water to the penetration of natural wrecks festooned with lines, nets, fishing line, sharp edges and unstable structures and lying at depths well beyond sport diving range. This class will concentrate on the survey of wrecks, detection and avoidance of hazards and, optionally, the safe penetration of wrecks especially prepared for divers. We will be using wrecks in the Edmonds Underwater Park to learn techniques necessary for safe wreck diving, such as line handling and proper finning. We will then travel Canada for a weekend of practice on larger, deeper wrecks. An Enriched (nitrox) Air course can be combined with your wreck diver course at a special price.
